Greetings from the Story Garden!

Plunge into the world of children's stories in a magical grove of book trees! And make sure you bring the kids. This beguiling setting has been designed to open up youngsters to the fabulous world of fiction and non-fiction writing aimed especially at them.

Almost 40 contemporary illustrators will take part in this, the biggest exhibition of Finnish children ́s literature ever held. In addition to contemporary illustrations, it will also feature two classic illustrators, Maija Karma and Maija-Kaarina Nenonen, whose works have never before been so widely exhibited in Finland. Tove Jansson's anniversary year is also being celebrated with the Hattifattener Cave, for the smallest members of the family to crawl into.

Children's books feature prominently in the Story Garden, where visitors can view the books, listen to story readings or participate in workshops created around different kinds of books. A wide range of events arranged in cooperation with a number of partners deal with different themes in child literature, from fairy tales to non-fiction. The programme includes topics of interest to educators as well.

The Story Garden is especially aimed at families with children as well as groups from day-care centres and schools. The exhibition is bilingual (Finnish/Swedish). Entrance is free to the exhibition and the events. This experimental children ́s literature happening is being organised by Pro lastenkirjallisuus - Pro barnlitteraturen ry, the children's literature society, and will be held in the Virka Gallery at Helsinki City Hall from 5 November 2014 to 1 February 2015.
